“You could say the director is a disappointment: 'JotHaBelsi' does not make a case for itself as either a film about music or as a portrait of the daily lives of musicians.”
Marcin Mindykowski

“In its own way, it's a two for one: a high-flying artistic manifesto and a sharply cutting, but above all funny, pastiche.”
Jarosław Irzykowski

“By penetrating deeply the nuances of local artistic life, Elvin Flamingo has created a work that is unarguably universal. The filmmaker/artist has smuggled into his project something that encroaches on the cheerful image, something that sometimes seeps out from beneath the joyful, carefree surface. It addresses tough questions about the sense of making art and the existence of art. It questions the status of art in community life and the status of the artist himself in today's reality. The director considers whether the act of creation is the expression of a blessing or of a curse. Is burning out for an artistic gesture worth the results it produces? And finally, can an artist even pose these questions, or is he just a passive vector of creative energy over which he himself has no control.”
Przemysław Gulda

“Selecting subcultures (especially ones that have yet to be described) and subjecting them to sociological analyses through a parody of a documentary based on a fictitious story (like in Zelig) with the sole aim of drawing attention to an existing and functioning community in reality is an über-cool thing to have done.”
Tomasz Bergmann

The film “JotHaBelsi” is the story of the enigmatic idea of “The JHBers”, of passion, of invention, of mysteries, of differences, of the urge to share with the world the energy that flows through us. The JHBers are those who have metaphysical energy and the potential need to create that lurks in each and every one of us. The director deliberately blurs the border between fantasy and reality, between document and fiction.

"Therapy"

I went to a psychiatrist once.
I was doing something that had become a pattern in my life,
and I thought,
Well, I should go talk to a psychiatrist.
When I got into the room, I asked him,
"Do you think this process could, in any way, damage my creativity?"
And he said, "Well, David, I have to be honest: it could."
And I shook his hand and left.
